Kristen Hole (formerly Dobson) is the Associate Commissioner of Instructional Strategy at the Texas Education Agency. In this role she oversees divisions focused on the adoption and implementation of high-quality curricular materials. This includes the development of the Texas Resource Review, a review process that provides educators with free, transparent, and user-friendly information about the quality of instructional materials to support adoption decisions. It also includes the development of Pre-K – Grade 12 Open Education Resources that provide districts with high-quality, freely accessible curricular options. Kristen also oversees the agency’s Innovative Instructional Models division and the Program Integration Strategy division focused on providing districts with an integrated menu of products, programs and services focused on improving outcomes for all students.
Prior to this work, Kristen was a Manager at Deloitte in the Strategy & Operations practice where she focuses on helping K-12 and Higher Ed clients answer strategic questions to increase scale and deepen impact. She was also an Innovation Fellow where she co-led the development of Deloitte’s new Student Success offering to help institutions improve graduation rates for low income students.
Kristen spent time at Excel Academy Charter Schools, Bellwether Education Partners, TOMS Shoes, and Stanford’s Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies.
Kristen holds a BA in Business Honors and Finance from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, an MBA and MA of Education from Stanford University and an MA in Education Leadership from the Broad Residency. In her free time, she enjoys all outdoor activities, country music, historical fiction books and traveling.
