Dr. Cecilia Maes assumed the role of Superintendent of the Alhambra Elementary School District (AESD) on July 1, 2021. Prior to joining the Alhambra community, she dedicated 15 years to the Cartwright Elementary School District, holding various positions, including Deputy Superintendent of District Operations, Director of Special Services, School Principal, and Assistant Principal. Her journey in education began as a teacher and instructional coach at the Glendale Elementary School District.
Originally from San Diego, CA, Dr. Maes spent part of her childhood there, raised by her grandfather, and the other part with her grandmother and uncle in El Paso, TX. In 1999, she made Phoenix, AZ her home and proudly pursued her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees at Arizona State University. Coincidentally, Alhambra was where she first resided upon arriving in The Grand Canyon State.
Being a devoted mom and wife, Dr. Maes considers education her true calling. She is deeply passionate about inspiring and empowering both children and the adults who serve them. Her unwavering commitment is to cultivate caring and nurturing environments within AESD schools, ensuring that both students and staff are supported to reach their fullest potential.
